We met Mr. B. this week. He has beautiful buttons all over him.
We read some stories about buttons and in Math, we sorted buttons!

There are soooo many "b words"!! We brainstormed 133!!

We learned three color words that begin with
the “b” sound…blue, black, and brown.
We made BIG, BLUE, BLACK, and BROWN BUGS!
We did this with a partner so it took a lot of cooperation!

We read a poem by Shel Silverstein called, “Band-Aids.”
Then we made a book about owies...we called it The Band-aid Book. Each child had to pick a part of the body to illustrate.
Then we put a band-aid on it....not a real one!
Ask your child how we made a band-aid!

Bears, bears, bears!!
We read lots of stories this week with bears as the main character!
There are so many!
Black Bear Cub, The Cranky Bear, My Friend Bear, Bear Feels Scared, Old Bear, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, The Berenstain Bears collection and (of course) Goldilocks and the Three Bears!!

We asked the kindergartners for some advice on what to be for Halloween!
Here are some of their suggestions!

We read books ABOUT books! Haha! For example...there are
books we read for enjoyment, books we read for information, books we read to find phone numbers...etc.. Then we designed a book cover for a book we think we might write someday! :)

Mrs. Flanigan, our tech integrationist, suggested that we
promote keyboard awareness!
So we made each of the kindergartners a (pretend) laptop!

Officer Sahr came and talked about Halloween and Stranger Safety!

FYI...Mrs. V will be out of town this weekend so she won't be home for trick or treat night! She gave handed out her treats to the kindergartners on Thursday!

REMINDER!!
There is a two and a half hour early out next Wed. Nov. 2nd.

We really enjoyed visiting with you at conferences!! :)

We met Mr. I this week! He is a letterlight! Letterlights are very tricky!
You usually find them inside words!

Tip...after you read a story at home, ask your child to tell you who the characters were and what the story was about!

We learned some
itsy-bitsy “Ii” words this week....ask your child what they are!

Mr. Ii LOVES to measure!
We used rulers, yardsticks, and tape measures to measure things
in our classroom!

Looking ahead to snowy, cold weather....
As you start to buy your child’s winter weather gear.
Things to remember...
1. Those thin little stretchy gloves are not warm enough, especially for
the long recess.  Waterproof is best!!
2. Please TRY to find things your child can do by him or herself.  We are more than happy to help with zippers and tying...but please try to make wise decisions when purchasing boots and gloves. It is hard for one teacher to help 21 kids get ready. :) Thanks!

Alert! Alert!
There is a 1 hr. early out next Tuesday and Thursday due to
parent/teacher conferences!
There is NO SCHOOL on Friday!! Thanks!

Reminder....it is Muffins for Mom next Tuesday and
Donuts for Dad next Thursday!!

Scholastic BookFair will be held At Pburg Elementary during Parent/Teacher Conferences from
4:00p.m.-8:00 p.m. (October 25th and 27th)

If you want to shop longer, try out the Online Book Fair which is from October 19 thru October 31st.

We appreciate your support for the library!

We read a story called, Inch By Inch, by Leo Lionni.  It is about a
very clever inchworm that measures things for birds.  Then we made our own book!  We pretended an inchworm came to
our classroom and we told it what to measure!

Here is another concept we are working on as writers...
-If the sound spelling or the drawing gets difficult...
DO YOUR BEST AND MOVE ON!  :)

We created with our clay this week!

Count, count, count....any chance you get! Counting builds number sense! Have your child count small quantities of things....for example,...
”How many garbage cans do we have?”
“How many pictures do we have on our walls? Etc.,....
We did it in our classroom for Math this week! We did an INVENTORY!!

Our Halloween Festivities will be on Monday, Oct. 31. Please have your child bring his/her costume in his/her backpack. Please remember NOT to send any weapons or make-up!  We would also appreciate it if parents did not attend the party...it is so “commotion-filled”!
We would rather have you visit on a “normal” day of school!!
Ha-ha!  Thanks!!!

Literacy Night was a HUGE success! We really appreciate the businesses who donated to the fun and learning!
Be sure to thank them if you get the chance!

Fun in the Leaves!!

Mrs. V's granddaughter came to visit again! She stayed for lunch and centers!

The kids built a house for her!

Other fun pics from the week!

Claire gave us all #CLAIRESTRONG bracelets!
Thank you and we are ALL here to support YOU!!

Boo! We are getting excited for Halloween!
