Cool Kindergarten News....

We met Mr. C. this week.  He wears a colossal cap....it helps to
keep him covered since he’s so shy.

We read the old time favorite, Caps For Sale, and then we made our own colossal caps!  We made sure we made them very colorful!!

The 5Cs...Claire, Carsyn, Charlee, Charlee, and Claire!!

Mr. H. came for another quick visit! He works with c sometimes to make the /ch/ sound. We read, CHicken Little and CHarlie the Caterpillar!

We discussed the four directions...north, south, east, and west.We learned that some birds fly south for the winter. We each made a goose. Those creations are hanging in the hallway...in V formation...heading SOUTH!

Sounds, sounds, sounds....it is very very important for the kindergartners to hear the letter sounds!  Any practice at home is terrific!  For example, play “I Spy” at the dinner table...”I spy something on the table that starts with “p” (say the sound instead of the letter).  It is great practice!!

ATTENTION, ATTENTION!
We are going on a FIELD TRIP next Thursday, October 13th!! We are heading to Barn-Stahl Petting Zoo & Family Center and we will be gone from
10:00-2:00. Therefore, every child needs a cold lunch that day! If you would rather have the school prepare that for your child, just let us know...their lunch account will be charged.
We are so excited that the Aplington kindergartners are coming, too!

ATTENTION, ATTENTION, again!
Next Tuesday or Wednesday...we will be sending home an envelope with some VERY important information in it! There will be a hearing check card, conference times, IXL sign in info, party note, and some assessment info!
Be on the lookout for this!

Please tell your kiddos if you put something in their backpack for us!  Also remind them to give it to us! :)

We are working on recognizing the basic eight color words!
The hardest ones are the three “b” color words...blue, black, and brown!!!

We learned about the three primary colors...red, yellow, and blue! We use those colors to make ALL of the other colors! We used food coloring to show how that works! Red and yellow make orange...blue and yellow make green...red and blue make purple!

In our writing lessons this week, we worked on labeling. A label gives the reader information about a picture. We labeled the cowboy photo that we took at the beginning of the year!!

Mayzie brought in CHocolate CHip Cookies! Thanks a bunch!

We really enjoyed our Statewide Walk on October 5th!
THE WHOLE SCHOOL walked from 12:05-1:25!

Mrs. Schwennen came to our rooms for an interesting lesson on hand washing! She shared a scientific demonstration!
Ask your kindergartner about it!

We went to visit our tree again! Wow! It has changed so much! We looked for more signs of fall and we took some leaves back to the classroom to use for rubbings and other creations!

Of course, we have been reading MANY spooky stories! O-o-o-o-o!

IXL Math
FYI...If you see parentheses
behind a skill...it means...we have learned about that skill. Please try to work on those items instead of things we have NOT had lessons on.
Thanks!

REMINDER!
There is no school next Monday, October 10th, for teacher professional development. It is also Columbus Day!
Visit with your child about what Columbus Day celebrates.

We are ALWAYS busy using BRAINPOWER!!
