What’s Happening In Kindergarten?
September 16, 2016
We met Ms. A. this week! She wants to be called Letterlight A because she LIGHTS the way to making words!
Wow! That is an important job!
She and the other letter people in our room showed us how!
Letter lights are tricky! They have TWO sounds for sure...maybe more! Sometimes a letter light works with a consonant and makes
an even different sound!
Learning how to read is hard work!
Now that we have met a letterlight…we can make WORDS!
Using the letter friends we have met so far, we spelled a, at, am, and mat.
We also learned about the –at and the -am word family!
We learned many scientific facts about ants.
We learned the word and.
Then we made a book about things that go together!
For example: macaroni and cheese, bread and butter, salt and pepper..etc.,..
In Math, we had a lesson on alike and different. Then we each got paint that was ALIKE (red and black)...but the creations turned out so DIFFERENTLY when we painted on our paper plates!! :)
Please send in a family photo for your child’s locker…
if you haven’t already done so. :)
We are learning so much about how to be a good writer.
This week we talked about the idea…
When you THINK you’re done...you’ve just BEGUN!
Good writers look back at their writing to see if they can add more detail and information through pictures and words.
We read, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. It taught us that everyone has a bad day once in awhile! Then we talked about a time we’ve had one of those days! We wrote about it.
We visited Parker Place on Thursday afternoon to see the Johnson Strings!
We brought posters for Assisted Living and Memory Care residents!
We REALLY want to visit the residents a lot this year!
It’s good for them and it’s good for us! Win-win!!
We read a story called,
The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree. Then we talked about
the cycle of an apple tree as well as the cycle of the seasons.
We read many stories about animals.
We also made a class book of what our FAVORITE animal is!
We are working hard on forming our letters the correct way!
The teachers had a good Professional Development Day on Wednesday afternoon! We learned how to structure our data days, we planned for future writing lessons, and we learned A LOT about appropriate fine motor development strategies and expectations for 5 and 6 year olds!
Here is our Kindergarten Team…
